    Good video. These books don’t get talked about enough. I picked this one up thinking it was fantasy, took a small break from reading and then picked it up to read. Hear me out. For some reason, I didn’t pick up the fantasy elements for a while. I was reading it like it took place in a more modern time. Good book!!

    This synopsis has persuaded me to read the book, thank you. Im currently being bullied by what i believe to be a narcissist. Its possible this person, could be a psychopath, but Im unsure of that. This persons blames me for things i havent done, to the point where im now losing practically all of my friends, because they believe him. No matter how rude he is, even discussing things of a sexually explicit nature, he can do no wrong in other peoples eyes. He is constantly chipping away at me, lowering my self esteem, and now other people think of me as the bad guy. If I was to hazard a guess, as to what he is trying to acheive, I think that he wants to destroy me? Again, I cant be certain, but that is what I feel very strongly. I have recently deleted and blocked him from social media. Since doing that, Ive noticed that other people including himself, are now not speaking to me. So goodness knows what, he is saying to them? Interestingly, a person who is a trustee of the community centre, where this is hapoening, told me, that he has received numerous complaints regarding this man, and some people are now refusing to go there. I feel vindicated, because I was made to feel like the crazy, and paranoid person.

    I had a similar situation with the head in the freezer. I wrote (never finished) a 350pg paranormal murder mystery and when it was time to finish - I didn't know who the killer was - I should have left it hanging and published it I supposed and let people decide, but then I'd have to change the genre - because in most murder mysteries - catching the killer is paramount. I did end up writing a likely killer and molding events to bring the book to an end - but - if felt forced - so - I dunno....

    My number one is Jim Butcher & James Marster with the *Dresden Files* . Marster is a master at bringing every character to life! . My now second favourite is Therese Plummer and you with *Vampire World* . I’m really enjoying her narration and will be on the lookout for more things she’s done with you. Im going to check out a couple author/narrator combos you’ve mentioned in this video. I’m newer to audiobooks so it’s nice to see other people’s suggestions. Cheers and thank you.

    I would think that this book could be put in the 'The Night Crew' category. 'The Night Crew' category is a title given to those books which show that the writer is not from the place. Steve Hamiliton knows U.P. people and not Chicagoans (in my impromptu opinion). John Sandford didn't have a deep acquaintance with Los Angeles. He knows Minnesotans and that is why his Minnesota based stories work. Plus, moving onto the National Stage as his follow-up seems to be, is a worry.

    Stephen King is entitled to his political opinions and so are his characters. Readers don't have to agree with them in order to enjoy his fiction. Some people are ridiculous.

    • @jordanmckee4970
      @jordanmckee4970 8 місяців тому

      You fail to recognise that people read fiction to escape the reality of real life. That involves politics, race, religion, war, and other issues that we have strong feelings for and against. Fiction is an amazing space for discussion of everything else that doesn’t include our reality it’s a form of escaping and it’s why media games films an any other form of entertainment is exactly that! To call people ridiculous because they’re annoyed that real life issues such as Covid being preached to us ans trump being constantly dogged at is a bully Tactic and will offend people and if you don’t understand that then your very very close minded I’m afraid.

    • @TheJFGB93
      @TheJFGB93 8 місяців тому

      @@jordanmckee4970 People read for all kinds of reasons, *including* escapism. Some read to entertain themselves, and don't mind to see the world they live in reflected on the page. Some read to see things from another point of view. Some read to process their feelings. And there are a lot more. The people who get annoyed at the references to reality or because they don't agree with the author's politics have every right to feel that way; they *don't have the right* to prevent others from talking or reading about them.

      @@jordanmckee4970 What you are describing is what conservatives often ridicule among liberals as being a snowflake who wants a safe space. Fiction is used for escape but also can be used to grapple with real world opinions and problems. It strikes me as odd that anyone would expect a horror novel to be a 'safe space' for them, politically.

    Bill Hodges wasn't my favorite series, but it was all right. Personally, I enjoy the interconnected Dark Tower references, and it's delightful and hilarious that Stephen King is a character in the Stephen King universe. The problem isn't incorporating real world politics - the problem is that King does is poorly and goes out of his way to demonize others outside of his books about it. It just came out yesterday from Newsweek and also Science and other sources that a whistleblower in Congress has confirmed that key people at the CIA intimidated scientists to suppress the Wuhan lab leak story. Let's take a wild guess which "side" of that King supported back in 2021 - he definitely wasn't on the side of people who were censored for talking about the lab leak.

But currently my favorites are Craig Alanson and RC Bray (Expeditionary Force, Convergence Series) Jonathan Maberry and Ray Porter (Joe Ledger, Rogue Team International) Sarah Lyons Fleming and Julia Whelan (Until the End of the World) I could go on and on but I'll leave it at that. I read a lot of indie sci-fi and I like some specific narrators: Tom Taylorson, Mark Boyett, Johnathan McClain, Jeffrey Kafer. But I adore Thèrése Plummer, just finished The Never Ending End of the World by Ann Christy and both Plummer and Ari Filiakos were amazing.

    Watched this video a long time ago. All I could recall was the cover art with the elephant. Now I'd like to read it after having re-watched this video.
