I read books and talk about them here. I mostly read speculative fiction and crime fiction. And sometimes I sing about books.
Reading negative reviews of my books
I've written 24 books in the last 10 years. Here's my favorite critical review of each of them.

Friday Reads 8/5/16 | Short Fiction Edition
Good video. These books don’t get talked about enough. I picked this one up thinking it was fantasy, took a small break from reading and then picked it up to read. Hear me out. For some reason, I didn’t pick up the fantasy elements for a while. I was reading it like it took place in a more modern time. Good book!!
This synopsis has persuaded me to read the book, thank you. Im currently being bullied by what i believe to be a narcissist. Its possible this person, could be a psychopath, but Im unsure of that. This persons blames me for things i havent done, to the point where im now losing practically all of my friends, because they believe him. No matter how rude he is, even discussing things of a sexually explicit nature, he can do no wrong in other peoples eyes. He is constantly chipping away at me, lowering my self esteem, and now other people think of me as the bad guy. If I was to hazard a guess, as to what he is trying to acheive, I think that he wants to destroy me? Again, I cant be certain, but that is what I feel very strongly. I have recently deleted and blocked him from social media. Since doing that, Ive noticed that other people including himself, are now not speaking to me. So goodness knows what, he is saying to them? Interestingly, a person who is a trustee of the community centre, where this is hapoening, told me, that he has received numerous complaints regarding this man, and some people are now refusing to go there. I feel vindicated, because I was made to feel like the crazy, and paranoid person.
Your eyes are pretty
Ah yes good 'Ole Ira. Perhaps you should promote all the p3e0phile authors.
Welcome back. Still looking forward to the revival of 'Hylton's Hall of Heroes' someday.
Thanks - I'm looking forward to getting back to that too.
Loved the entire *Vampire World* series
I had a similar situation with the head in the freezer. I wrote (never finished) a 350pg paranormal murder mystery and when it was time to finish - I didn't know who the killer was - I should have left it hanging and published it I supposed and let people decide, but then I'd have to change the genre - because in most murder mysteries - catching the killer is paramount. I did end up writing a likely killer and molding events to bring the book to an end - but - if felt forced - so - I dunno....
Loved the video.
Just discovered Ira Levin and found this video, now I realized that you’re still active on this channel. Good to see, really interesting video
My number one is Jim Butcher & James Marster with the *Dresden Files* . Marster is a master at bringing every character to life! . My now second favourite is Therese Plummer and you with *Vampire World* . I’m really enjoying her narration and will be on the lookout for more things she’s done with you. Im going to check out a couple author/narrator combos you’ve mentioned in this video. I’m newer to audiobooks so it’s nice to see other people’s suggestions. Cheers and thank you.
Currently ljstening to this now..atbthe start..already enjoying it..i am notorious for dnf books but some how this already looks a cert that i will finish it
I just read this whole thing in a few hours. Damn. That just tore at my heart
I’m new here…pretty sure you wrote the series I’m currently reading: *Vampire World* : The Savage Truth (book #4). Thank you for the video and book suggestions . Looking forward to more suggestions!!
Brother you're Vampire world needs to be a movie or animation. Best read ever. Much love.
I would think that this book could be put in the 'The Night Crew' category. 'The Night Crew' category is a title given to those books which show that the writer is not from the place. Steve Hamiliton knows U.P. people and not Chicagoans (in my impromptu opinion). John Sandford didn't have a deep acquaintance with Los Angeles. He knows Minnesotans and that is why his Minnesota based stories work. Plus, moving onto the National Stage as his follow-up seems to be, is a worry.
Stephen King is entitled to his political opinions and so are his characters. Readers don't have to agree with them in order to enjoy his fiction. Some people are ridiculous.
You fail to recognise that people read fiction to escape the reality of real life. That involves politics, race, religion, war, and other issues that we have strong feelings for and against. Fiction is an amazing space for discussion of everything else that doesn’t include our reality it’s a form of escaping and it’s why media games films an any other form of entertainment is exactly that! To call people ridiculous because they’re annoyed that real life issues such as Covid being preached to us ans trump being constantly dogged at is a bully Tactic and will offend people and if you don’t understand that then your very very close minded I’m afraid.
@@jordanmckee4970 People read for all kinds of reasons, *including* escapism. Some read to entertain themselves, and don't mind to see the world they live in reflected on the page. Some read to see things from another point of view. Some read to process their feelings. And there are a lot more. The people who get annoyed at the references to reality or because they don't agree with the author's politics have every right to feel that way; they *don't have the right* to prevent others from talking or reading about them.
@@TheJFGB93 I never said they don’t or do have any right to feel a certain way it just amazes that people are so ignorant about things. Whether for or against. That’s all I’m saying dude.
@@jordanmckee4970 What you are describing is what conservatives often ridicule among liberals as being a snowflake who wants a safe space. Fiction is used for escape but also can be used to grapple with real world opinions and problems. It strikes me as odd that anyone would expect a horror novel to be a 'safe space' for them, politically.
@@GRWelsh7 cry about it
The problem isn't the political content in the books, it's SK's obsession with Trump. In Billy Summers he is literally mentioned almost 20 times. Do you want to write a fiction book with political touches or a political book with fiction touches? We want stories not a copy of your Twitter wall.
Duma Key, right now. Holly, down the road. Subscribed. Dead Zone, favorite. Thank you.
What's a good book similar to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre story? Also, is that book in and of itself worth reading? I've seen the movies.
Off Season by Jack Ketchum, Kin by Kealan Patrick Burke & Brother by Ania Ahlborn are all very gruesome Texas Chainsaw-type reads. I’m not aware of any actual Texas Chainsaw novels, but those three all have a similar vibe.
Bill Hodges wasn't my favorite series, but it was all right. Personally, I enjoy the interconnected Dark Tower references, and it's delightful and hilarious that Stephen King is a character in the Stephen King universe. And I'm glad he stuck around to insert himself (hard to believe that was over twenty years ago)
Wow, it is hard to believe that was over twenty years ago!
The problem isn't incorporating real world politics - the problem is that King does is poorly and goes out of his way to demonize others outside of his books about it. It just came out yesterday from Newsweek and also Science and other sources that a whistleblower in Congress has confirmed that key people at the CIA intimidated scientists to suppress the Wuhan lab leak story. Let's take a wild guess which "side" of that King supported back in 2021 - he definitely wasn't on the side of people who were censored for talking about the lab leak.
Thanks
Have you considered relaunching your Hylton's Hall of Heroes series?
Great idea - I might just do that!
Oh gosh. So many. But currently my favorites are Craig Alanson and RC Bray (Expeditionary Force, Convergence Series) Jonathan Maberry and Ray Porter (Joe Ledger, Rogue Team International) Sarah Lyons Fleming and Julia Whelan (Until the End of the World) I could go on and on but I'll leave it at that. I read a lot of indie sci-fi and I like some specific narrators: Tom Taylorson, Mark Boyett, Johnathan McClain, Jeffrey Kafer. But I adore Thèrése Plummer, just finished The Never Ending End of the World by Ann Christy and both Plummer and Ari Filiakos were amazing.
Jonathan Maberry and Ray Porter is a GREAT pick. And I agree, Thèrése Plummer is the best!
I need to catch up On Úrsula LeGuin too. Been on my TBR for too long.
Feel free to join the Ursula LeGuin buddy read starting on Sept 17th.
Ok alright, getting the S. A. Cosby audio books… ;P Good to see this pop up on the algo today
If you enjoy thoughtful crime fiction, you can’t go wrong with Cosby! Let me know what you think.
Glad to see you posting again. Loved your graphic novel (absolute) reviews back in the day, especially Sandman and All-Star Superman.
Thanks! I'll be reviewing some graphic novels soon. Stay tuned.
This is one of my top five favorite books. She has another one called the toll. She really seems to have done her research on the way psychic phenomenon present, and in case of the other book I mentioned, how folk magic actually works. It's awesome.
Toll sounds good. I will check it out!
*SPOILER-ish ALERT* what makes me happy... is that there would be one universe where Jason tracks down Amanda after she leaves him... and he says he wants to stay with her and create a new life together
Thank for the insightful critique.
6 years later, your video is still helpful, insightful, and fun to listen to. Thank you!
Thanks very much!
I’ve read all his books and they are all 4 star or higher. He is like S King to me
Excellent review! Thank you
If I were Ken Kesey. I'd plan the movie adaptation as a four-part animated motion-picture that's 100% faithful to the book, and sell the rights to Ralph Bakshi as the cartoonist, and Kirk Douglas as the writer, director, producer and voice of McMurphy.
Glad to hear someone else's thoughts on this book, great video!
Yes, I loved your look back at some of SK’s innovations!! 🎉
not a King fan, but this was genuinely fascinating. Thanks!!!
Thanks, Jane!
I really liked the book. Especially the life of robots after they are de-identified, removed from indentured labor and released and they roam around injecting themselves with viruses and worms and arcade games just so that they can escape reality. Much like what Jack was doing in the Pharma. Love the man machine love angle. Great book. Highly recommended.
that sandman copy still looks glued binding to me, it just has an oxford hollow which help[s with gutter loss

Watch the movie...John Garfield is tremendous!
Nice. He's one of my favorite authors, and This Perfect Day is one of my favorite books. ❤
I have just finished reading this brilliant book! in 3 days I finished! mind-blowing
Picked it up, not expecting much, haven’t read novels for a long time, never read any reviews on it, and then found that this book is really awesome and gave me a few ‘whoah’ moments! Enjoyed it very2 much.
You truly have the best Sandman reviews
Nice COMICS
All I know is the movie, and I loved it,then found out it's trilogy thank you👍
Watched this video a long time ago. All I could recall was the cover art with the elephant. Now I'd like to read it after having re-watched this video.
I cannot connect with Control ... I connected and admired the other characters in the first Southern Reach novel.
Not too jazzed to read the last book of the series ... I'll be moving on with reading more of Thomas Pynchon, David Foster Wallace, Frank Hubert, and H.P. Lovecraft
